Day 2

Well a lot can happen in 2 days. It’s been very up and down, and not just in the physical sense. Yesterday was hellish, rain wind the lot. The north coast is stark to say the least, beautiful but extremely stark in places. I rolled into Thurso rather slowly, then found a bike shop and get the brakes replaced, and overhauled. They’re much better. That took ages and by the time I was done 2 hours had passed. The road it’s self from John o’groats was relatively flat but after that it was long hill after hill, which killed me. By the time I got to strathy, where I stopped (short of my target bettyhill) I was done in, not to mention soaked. Anyway I bailed in favour of a b and b. Called strathy inn which I can wholly recommend.

Today started slow but I finally made it to bettyhill after 2 hours and a lot of sweat and feeling rather low and dejected. Anyway I read my letter from Kim and got a pep talk from my mum, and things started to look up. The road out of bettyhill and south was stunning. Following a river that finally led to a loch, the names of which have left me. Anyway another treat was in order in the form of a startled dear running around I think I caught it off guard. So in terms of sights so far I’ve been pretty lucky, seals, dear, square rainbows at sea, waves forming in channels against the wind. It’s all happening. So after the loch a slow accent followed by my longest non-stop accent thus far of 266 metres then the best 19 mile downhill stretch…. So much fun and fast. Now in Lairg at another campsite, quite nice and I’m booked in for invergarry youth hostel on sunday just past loch ness! Sick. Tomorrow 50 something miles to beauly followed by a rest day and ffordes photographic for some camera porn

So to the stats so far. Total miles 97 Total calories burned 4500 Today’s average speed 12.7 (boom) Today’s mileage 56 Daft punk the tunes of choice and a life saver
