Day 5, 6 and 7

Day 5:

Barcaldine: This was a pretty route out from Invergarry following another big loch and hittig the west coast. I decided to camp this time. The roads were relatively busy being that I was on a fairly major A road, but nothing too bad. The route was pretty smooth, no real undulations or unexpected hills a good run all in all. The campsite was great and I did meet a lovely family with 4 great kids, Millie, Xavier and Miller and a little baby. All were really nice to me and made me feel very welcome. I went for a walk in the woods with them and had breakfast with them too, it really lifted my spirits. Also thanks guys for the sponsorship money I will add it to the collection when I get home.

Day 6: Lochgilphead. A run pretty much dead on 50 miles heading down from the west coast slightly easterly. Quite hilly in places with a couple of long tough climbs. Found the going quite difficult, but i did stop for lunch in Oban, which was lovely. I got chatting to a father and daughter who were from around the area and had a good laugh with them. The afternoon from Oban was when the going got tougher and i really did start to flag in the last miles to Lochgilphead. The town was a bit rundown and did remind of Redruth or Penzance. But it did have a lovely section along the coast. Also met a couple of ladies doing the Lands End to john O’Groats run but ‘with’ support off and on. They were doing the last leg and seemed to enjoy Arran my next port of call.

Day 7: Isle of Arran. Woke up feeling very tired today but hauled my self back onto the trail. Nearly head towards Glasgow by accident, then turned round and headed the right way. Did about 25 miles, mostly very easy apart from when i neared Tarbet which suddenly got hilly. Found the going tough down to Clanoig (ferry), anyway I’m now on the Isle of Arran. Its beautiful, as so many people have told me its like little Scotland. I’ve called it quits for the day to recharge both physically and the phones etc. So I’m staying in the rather nice hostel on the island. I’m going to have a bit of a stroll in a while and look around then tomorrow onto Ayr where my Gran was born and hopefully a chance to see some relatives.
